Why Would You Want To Be Anywhere but Here? Mayday Parade at the Syracuse Food Truck Battle

By Sarah Swetz

The Syracuse Food Truck Association hosted their annual Food Truck Battle at the New York State Fairgrounds this weekend. The weekend was filled with food, drinks and music. I had the pleasure of attending the festival on Saturday May 9th and was able to taste some incredible food before spending the night singing along to one of my personal favorite bands, Mayday Parade. There were about 50 food trucks at the battle all offering some incredible stasting samples, both savory and sweet.

With full stomachs we then headed to the VIP tent to get ready to jam out with Mayday Parade. The crowd was filled with fans in varies pop punk band tees that were ready to get nostalgic for a band that has been giving us great music for more than 2o years. The band first formed in 2005 in Tallahassee, Florida and is made up of members Derek Sanders (lead vocals), Alex Garcia (lead guitar), Brooks Betts (rhythm guitar), Jeremy Lenzo (bass), and Jake Bundrick (drums). Since 2005 they have been putting out hit after hit with pop punk, emo, and rock sounds. There was a little bit of everything during this set, starting with their newest release “Blame it on the Youth” and then immediately hitting the nostalgia factor by playing Jersey. The night continued with some bouncing back and forth between some old favorites and newer releases. The energy was high and the crowd was feeling it! Below you can check out the full photo gallery from the night.
