Jenny Palacios is a dark indie pop artist based in Toronto, Canada. Since 2019, she has been an independent artist focused on synth-pop/alternative melodies. She is set to release a single “Ruin Your Life” on August 20 that was made for the overthinkers of the world. The track itself is gritty, modern pop meets alt rock and follows the singer on a night out where her mind is anywhere but physically with her. Her journey, while writing the track turned from trying to capture a feeling of anger that turned more into focusing on a feeling of being emotionally overwhelmed.
“I realized I wasn’t really angry at anyone, I think I was just really overwhelmed,” Palacios explains. “The song became less about ruining someone else’s life and more about trying to escape your own head… we kept the title because it’s fun.”edible.

Palacios mentions that she drew inspiration from Rhianna’s “We Found Love” music video – she tries to capture the energy and euphoria of that track and pour it into this song about a night out where you aren’t emotionally present. Sometimes you can feel surrounded by a party in high energy, but your brain won’t turn off, you can’t enjoy the people around you. Sometimes your thoughts become completely overwhelming and you have to find some way to shut it down. The track is high energy musically and acts like a mirror that distracts you from the emotionally distraught lyrics. It really captures what the song is about in the most perfect way.
This single ‘Ruin Your Life” is just the newest in a line of fantastic singles from Palacios and I’m excited to see what she does next.
